CARE GUIDE
A handcrafted rug from LAYERED becomes a foundation of the home, designed to stand the test of time. Through proper care, you ensure that the craftsmanship preserves its original character. In this guide, you will find our essential care principles, practical advice for everyday living, and specific information of your chosen material.

Care Principles
1. Rotate for Even Wear
Rotate your rug 180 degrees a few times a year. This ensures even wear and gracefully balances the natural effects of sunlight.
2. Preserve the Pile
Use high-quality furniture pads under heavy legs to distribute weight and keep the pile resilient. Always lift, rather than drag, furniture when rearranging to maintain the weave’s smooth structure.
3. Let the Fibers Breathe
Natural materials regain their bounce with good air circulation. Refresh your rug by airing it outdoors or open up your windows.

Action for Spills
1. Absorb immediately
Gently blot the area with a clean, uncolored cotton cloth or white paper towel to absorb as much liquid as possible.
2. Never Rub
Rubbing pushes the liquid deeper into the fibers and damages the pile.
3. Work inwards
Always dab from the edge of the spill toward the center to prevent it from spreading.

Do you sell rug pads?
Yes. A highly appreciated addition among our customers is our BPA-free anti-slip rug pad, crafted from 100% GRS-certified recycled polyester. This extra layer protects your floors, keeps the rug in place, and enhances the comfort of our flatwoven rugs, jute rugs, and runners.

Is initial shedding normal?
Yes. A common characteristic of handcrafted natural materials is that they take a little time to settle. It is completely normal for a new wool rug to shed loose fibers initially. This is simply a natural part of the weaving process and a sign of the genuine fibers used.
With regular vacuuming, the shedding will naturally subside over time. To easily manage any loose fibers along the way, you can gently sweep the surface with a damp cloth or a soft brush. Should you notice a stray thread, simply snip it carefully with scissors rather than pulling it, to keep the weave perfectly intact.
Are your rugs compatible with robot vacuums?
We always recommend checking your robot vacuum manufacturer’s specific guidelines regarding woven rugs in first hand. Generally, robot vacuums are an excellent choice for daily upkeep, though their gentler suction may require a bit more time to thoroughly refresh the pile compared to a classic vacuum.
For regular vacuuming, it is important to use a nozzle specifically suited for rugs to protect the natural fibers.
How do I remove pressure marks and creases from my rug?
Heavy furniture can compress natural fibers over time. To preserve the pile, we recommend rotating your rug occasionally to distribute the weight. If impressions do appear, gently dab the area with ice-cold water (if it's wool), let it rest, and then carefully fluff the pile with your hand or a soft brush.
It is also natural for a new rug to show slight creases from transport or storage. To help it settle quickly, simply roll the rug tightly in the opposite direction and leave it for a few hours. Once laid flat, the fibers will relax and return to their smooth shape within a few days.
Are your rugs suitable for underfloor heating?
Yes. Most of our rugs are suited for rooms with underfloor heating. However, please note that this does not apply to our anti-slip rugs.
How do I care for a rug with a backing?
Rugs crafted with a natural latex backing require dry care to maintain their smooth shape. To protect the integrity of the binding, please avoid soaking the rug or using traditional wet cleaning methods.
Recommended Care:
Vacuum regularly for daily upkeep.
Always consult a professional rug care specialist for a thorough cleaning.

MATERIAL GUIDE
Every material has its own unique characteristics. Select your material below to discover tailored advice and care instructions for your specific rug.
WOOL RUGS
Wool is a naturally resilient and durable material, thanks to the protective lanolin found within its fibers. While wool rugs will shed—a natural characteristic that subsides with regular care—they are remarkably easy to maintain.
Maintenance & Cleaning
Vacuuming: Vacuum your rug weekly using a soft nozzle without a brush to preserve the fibers.
Stains: Act quickly by blotting excess liquid with a dry cloth. For remaining marks, use a small amount of lukewarm water and a drop of mild soap on a damp cloth. Gently dab the stain—never rub—and finish by blotting with a dry cloth.
Professional Care: For deep cleaning or stubborn stains, always consult a professional rug cleaner who performs flat drying.
Jute RUGS
Jute is a beautifully rustic, biodegradable, and recyclable fiber, making it an excellent choice for a conscious home. Its porous weave adds a natural warmth and texture to any space, from living rooms to quiet bedrooms.
Maintenance & Cleaning
Vacuuming: Jute thrives with regular vacuuming and occasional airing outdoors. To keep the fibers fresh, shake the rug gently to release any dust.
Moisture Caution: Jute is highly sensitive to liquids. Avoid all wet cleaning methods and never soak the rug, as moisture can cause the fibers to shrink or discolor.
Stains: If a spill occurs, blot immediately and thoroughly with a dry cloth. For stubborn marks, we recommend consulting a professional rug specialist.
Shedding: As a natural plant fiber, jute will shed small fibers. This is a characteristic of the material's organic nature and will subside with regular maintenance.
SISAL RUGS
Sisal is an exceptionally durable, natural material crafted from the robust fibers of the agave plant. Its tough structure makes it the perfect choice for high-traffic areas such as entryways, kitchens, or home offices, offering a timeless, earthy aesthetic.
Maintenance & Cleaning
Vacuuming: Vacuum regularly and shake the rug outdoors occasionally to remove dry dirt and dust from the weave.
Moisture Caution: Sisal is highly sensitive to moisture and should never be soaked. Avoid water-based cleaners, as they can cause water spots or weaken the fibers.
Stains: Act immediately by blotting spills with a clean, dry cloth—never rub. For deeper cleaning, we recommend using a mild dry-cleaning powder specifically designed for natural fibers.
Professional Care: Due to its sensitivity to water, always consult a professional rug specialist for thorough cleaning.
SHAGGY RUGS
Characterized by its long, lush pile of 100% new zeeland wool, the LAYERED Shaggy is a statement of comfort. Due to the depth of the weave, it requires a bit more focus during maintenance to keep the fibers fresh and free from dust.
Maintenance & Cleaning
Vacuuming: Vacuum regularly in the direction of the pile, lifting the nozzle after each stroke. For a deeper clean, occasionally turn the rug upside down and gently tap the back to release any dust trapped deep within the pile.
Stains: Blot immediately with a dry cloth. Use lukewarm water and a drop of mild soap on a damp cloth to gently dab the area. Finish with a dry cloth.
Professional Care: We recommend professional cleaning with flat drying for the best results.
Recycled PET RUGS
Our Recycle rugs are crafted from repurposed plastic bottles, transformed into a soft, durable yarn.
Maintenance & Cleaning
Versatile Care: These rugs are exceptionally easy to maintain. For daily upkeep, regular vacuuming is all that’s needed.
Stains: Since the fibers do not absorb liquid in the same way as natural materials, most spills can be easily wiped away with a damp cloth and a mild detergent if necessary.
VISCOSE & TENCEL RUGS
Viscose and tencel are celebrated for their silk-like luster and exceptional softness. As these are delicate fibers, they are best suited for areas where the risk of spills is minimal.
Maintenance & Cleaning
Vacuuming: Vacuum regularly in the direction of the pile. Avoid using a brush attachment or a heavy-duty vacuum, as this can damage the delicate fibers.
Liquid Sensitivity: These materials are highly sensitive to moisture. Water can cause the fibers to stiffen, lose their shine, or leave permanent marks. Always avoid wet cleaning methods.
Stains: Act immediately by blotting spills with a dry microfiber cloth in the direction of the pile. Never rub. For stubborn stains, consult a professional who specializes in chemical dry cleaning for delicate rugs.
Shedding: It is natural for these fibers to shed initially. This will subside over time with gentle, regular maintenance.
