RUG GUIDE

Choosing the right rug isn’t just about personal taste – it’s equally about function, proportion, and harmony within the space. Here are a few guiding principles to consider when selecting a rug based on color, form, and size.

CONSIDER

What feeling do I want to convey? Think about how you want the space to feel – warm and inviting, minimal and structured, or playful and full of character.

Clarifying this vision guides the process, whether your aim is to instill calm, create a bold focal point, or harmonize the room’s palette.

PLACEMENT

LIVING ROOM

For a seating area, your rug should be at least 20 cm wider than the sofa. If the sofa is centered in the room, place all seating furniture on the rug. For sofas against a wall, the rug should extend under the front legs. When seated, your feet should rest on the rug, and side tables should have at least one leg on it.

BEDROOM

When choosing a rug for the bedroom, it’s important to consider both function and aesthetics. The rug should cover a good portion of the floor. A rug in calm, neutral tones can create a relaxing and harmonious atmosphere, while a patterned rug can add more character and life to the room. The material is also key – a soft and comfortable surface, such as wool creates both comfort and warmth.

DINING ROOM

Under the dining table, the rug should be large enough to keep the chairs on it, even when pulled back. This ensures comfort and balance when seated. Aim for about 70 cm of rug extending beyond the table’s edges for the best fit.
