GIO COLLECTION
LAYERED presents Gio Collection – a series of hand-tufted wool rugs exploring geometry, rhythm, and colour in deliberate contrast. Rooted in Italian architecture, floor friezes, and the design language of the 1960s and ’70s, the collection focuses on proportion and symmetry.

"Our tribute to italian modernism"
The collection comprises three designs, each with its own geometric rhythm. Coppa Canella is built on a vertical flow of half circles in muted earthy tones, Mezza Confetto plays with circular compositions in contrasting shades, and Doppio Rosa balances two defined colour fields framed by linear structure. Each rug is hand-tufted in 100% wool by skilled artisans in Bhadohi, India. Every colour field is carefully hand-cut to create subtle height variations and a tactile surface that enhances the pattern.
The house, designed in the 1930s by architect Luigi Carlo Daneri, sits on a rocky hillside overlooking the Mediterranean in Liguria.
The house architecture reflects Italian rationalism, with clean geometries, horizontal lines, and a structure that follows the natural slope of the landscape. Large windows and continuous glazing connect the interior with the surrounding park and sea views, creating an open, flowing spatial experience.

The name Gio plays on geo – as in geometry – while also honouring the Italian architect and designer Gio Ponti, whose way of merging form, colour, and precision has long influenced LAYERED’s creative direction.

“We started sketching something more graphic and bold – rugs that truly claim their space. The idea draws from Gio Ponti’s approach to pattern and colour in architecture, where everything is about balance rather than decoration.”
