PIET AND SHAGGY

LAYERED presents two collections of tactile wool rugs, sharing a language of checks and stripes, softened by the colors of raw wool, warm earth and moss green.

Defined by a distinct checkered pattern, Piet is meticulously hand-knotted using 100% New Zealand wool on a durable cotton foundation. With a generous 16–18mm pile height, each piece bridge the relaxed volume of a traditional rya with the dense structure of a solid wool rug.

The name is a tribute to Piet Hein, the Danish poet, designer and scientist who moved freely between art and mathematics. Its strict geometric pattern reflects that same meeting of creativity and discipline, where art meets structure and precision.

Available in standard sizes as well as bespoke.

Shaggy is the softer, wilder side of the same inspiration. As one of LAYERED's first designs, it is here reinterpreted in geometric patterns and a deeper color palette. Shaggy Stripe and Shaggy Checked take bold checks and bands and render them in long, generous piles.

Each piece is made in Samarina, Greece where the Greek artisans have kept this special craft alive for centuries – once the undyed wool has been handwoven, each rug is submerged in rushing, ice-cold water within man-made waterfalls designed to replicate the natural mountain streams.
