SHAGGY COLLECTION

LAYERED’s Shaggy rug collection reintroduces an iconic craft rooted in ancient Greek tradition. Here, wild texture takes center stage, showcasing the traditional handwoven flokati technique. By honoring its authentic heritage, LAYERED has reimagined the shaggy rug as a soft, organic layer, designed to add tactile, sophisticated depth.

A handcrafted collection deeply connected to the early journey of LAYERED

The Shaggy collection is defined by its rigorous production process. Handcrafted from 100% wool, each rug begins with undyed yarn that is handwoven to form the foundation.

To achieve the signature 50 mm pile, the rugs undergo a centuries-old washing technique that relies on elemental force rather than mechanical intervention. Once woven, the rugs are submerged in ice-cold, rushing water within specially constructed waterfalls, engineered to replicate natural mountain streams. The combination of water pressure, low temperatures, and constant friction naturally forces the wool fibers to expand and soften.

This hands-on process brings out the material's inherent luster, resulting in the rich, tactile texture and distinct volume that characterize a LAYERED Shaggy.

In addition to traditional rectangular formats, the collection also offers the Residue — an organically shaped variation. Highly versatile, this asymmetrical silhouette is an ideal choice for tricky-to-furnish areas or for layering multiple rugs within the same space, creating a dynamic visual composition.

The Shaggy collection is fundamentally tied to Greek textile history. To document the authentic heritage behind the production, LAYERED traveled to Athens, capturing the traditional flokati craft at its source.
